Art from San Francisco

As if there aren't enough reasons to visit San Francisco. Art is certainly one of them and there are several art fairs worth a visit here. No matter how much artwork you have looked at, you are bound to find something different at each one. Here I've compiled some works from the FOG Design + Art and Untitled shows that just passed. Maybe it'll inspire a visit next year. I know I definitely would like to go. You can view more here.

What's new at 20x200?

It's been a while since I first visited 20x200 and featured artwork from their site.  I was curious to see what new talent had joined. Some prints that were in my previous post are still available, which is nice, but there's definitely new work that piqued my interest.

This chair is a work of art

I don't usually get excited about furniture but this Petal Chair designed by architect Gulla Jonsdottir is really something else. Originally from Iceland, the designer studied at the Southern California Institute of Architecture before permanently settling down in L.A.

When Sunscreen is Not Enough

Trying to stay cool this summer is an impossible feat. The sun is that much hotter. Even after a short walk my skin starts to resemble a roast chicken. Nothing seems to help, not even sunscreen. If you are dealing with the same, here are a few suggestions.

Why Art in New York is Never Boring

Judging by the number of sold signs at Frieze New York, the art market is likely in better shape than anticipated. But then again, this is New York not Boston. Well-known artists sell regardless of the economy and slower sales can offer one of the best opportunities to buy. At peak times, acquiring certain works may not be as easily available. When others hesitate, taking a risk can pay off big time. It's not easy predicting trends, but if you do your homework and watch for consistency you may come out ahead of those who wait for all the right indicators. Ultimately, if you buy something you love, you'll win anyway.

Art New York 2016

Art New York may be in its embryonic stages but that doesn't mean its featured artists were too, unless you count actor Adrien Brody who was also included. But then again who knew that he could paint anyway? Luckily his fame didn't distract from the rest of the show which was really quite good. Maybe there will be more in store next year.
