I Am Simply Loving this Living Room

I don't usually write about interiors but this room is so casual and down to earth, it's hard not to like. And the layered side tables are fantastic. Who wouldn't want to relax in here?

If only everyone had a studio like this...

I love the open space in this studio. I think if everyone had this much room to work with they would all want to become artists. Here, the artist at work is Maryan Keyhani who used to be known for her jewellery designs. Now, she splits her time between Toronto and Berlin working on her art. Personally, I can't wait to see more of her work.

A sample of one of her paintings:

Maybe talent is genetic. This is a painting by her father.

A Lisbon Retreat

I found this apartment in The Address Magazine recently and I couldn't resist posting it here. It's so serene and beautiful and with a view that can only truly be appreciated with floor to ceiling windows. Who wouldn't find this relaxing?  Portugal anyone?

Elin Kling at Home in Sweden

When I first started this blog I thought I would write more about interiors but it never happened. For some reason I felt there was very little for me to add because there are so many incredible blogs out there already devoted to this field. Still though, interior design remains a huge passion of mine and if there is one area of my local bookstore that I always gravitate to it's the interiors section. I can never get enough of interior design magazines especially Australian Vogue Living which is simply my favourite. It always has such a nice mix of interiors, fashion and art. So this morning, I decided to indulge a little and feature the interior space of fellow blogger and fashion phenomenon Elin Kling.

Kling's home has the sort of white space that exudes the Swedish aesthetic.  It's simple and crisp with just the right amount of luxury and softness to still make it feel like a home and not a gallery space.  It's also completely unpretentious and instead focuses on the bare essentials without sacrificing comfort or quality.

I always appreciate a clutter-free home where accessories are kept to a minimum.  It's easier on the eyes and much more calming. And I think this must be a great place to come home to especially for a creative professional who is probably oversaturated with all things design related and all things fashion.

I initially found this home on the Norwegian blog, fine ting og sjokolade and the more I looked at it the more it grew on me.  It's a living space that, quite frankly, makes a lot of economical sense.  It's ideal in that it provides enough space for what two people could ever need but it also gives you enough room to build on.

I'm not sure whether that's real fur on the floor or not (I would would probably choose something faux personally) but I like how it's sitting right underneath the dining room table so it can shelter your feet from the cold wooden floor.  This is not an intimidating home; instead it's casual and relaxed, and in many ways remains to be defined.

I couldn't help but add this pic of Kling's small shoe collection to show a glimpse of her sartorial tastes.  Somehow I suspect that this is just the tip of the iceberg; I wonder where she keeps all the rest.  Perhaps there's another room we don't know about.  But I suppose some things should remain a mystery.

Feathers + Pillows

My love affair with Aussie design and art continues.  I spotted these feather textiles from Elkhorn Design on Etsy several months ago and I knew it was only a matter of time before they ended up on this blog.  I love everything about them especially the orange flavour.  It just makes me want to visit Australia even more; there's so much creative talent down there.  Unfortunately, it's so far on the periphery that we hardly ever hear about it.  I certainly plan to add more artists and designers in the future so stay tuned.

They make table runners too, check this one out in a beautiful mustard.

But I have to have the orange one.

For a neutral pallete there's a nice white and gray combo.

And here is another lovely pillow.

New Magazines You Have To Read

We have some more creative talent to look forward to.  I just took a peek at High Gloss Magazine after seeing it on the lovely Elements of Style Blog and I simply love it.  There is such incredible variety and talent on display here that I can't wait to see future editions.  Have a look for yourself; I think you will be as impressed as I was.

Another great design magazine comes to us thanks to an introduction from Design*Sponge which interviewed the magazine's art director, Bri Emery, today.  It's called Rue Magazine and it's a complete feast for the eyes.  I'm adding both of these great mags to my Favourite Sites links you can easily find them again once new editions are issued.  Enjoy!
