Frieze Seoul Art Fair 2023

Frieze Seoul is a new but important art fair and it's not to be missed. It is in its second edition and this year featured a multitude of artists ranging from emerging ones to fully established ones. Masato Mori's, Japanese carpenter bee, is a chaotic scene of a summer garden. It is full of disarray and we wonder how one can escape such a scene. The carpenter is indiscernable and looks overwhelmed just like we are at what's in front of him. Meanwhile Gabriel Orozco is a Mexican artist who flirts with geometric shapes to bring about a colourful abstract rendition. The work is both colourful and playful and showcases its dynamic presence. Peter Stichbury, is a New Zealand artist whose youthful male painting is worth a second glance. The handsome young man gazes at the viewer with his crisp features confronting us and we can only guess at what Mr. Stichbury had in mind when he painted him. Last but not least is Amoako Boafo's, White Overgrip, painting. This Ghanaian artist is having a stellar year with a show having just finished at the Seattle Museum entitled Soul of Black Folks edited by the curator Larry Ossei-Mensah. He is an indelible talent and his work proves to be just so. We wish him and all the rest of those showing at Frieze Seoul the best of luck in the future.
