Art Cologne is always an impressive affair. This year it brought over 1,000 artists to the fair. Galleries from all over the world were included. The art fair held in Cologne, Germany is an important event for the host country. I found many new artists whom I'm eager to share with you. Please take for instance Cornelius Volker's Frisur which a great study of colour and contrast. It's not just about hair; the model is hidden from view and we only see the hairstyle and neck. It's mysterious yet wholesome at the same time. The woman's profile is turned away and we left to ponder on the beauty of her hair. Hair is important and this woman's is no exception. Striking highlights contrast with the flowers in her hair and her pink complexion raises questions about her identity. Who is she we wonder and what possessed her to pose this way? Clara Spilliaert, Untitled which spells Love Me Only in a playful manner is a clever take on language and love. It's ironic in its capacity to capture the zeitgeist of our time. We seek pleasure on our own behalf and we take for granted what came before. Is it a reach for the impossible or something we all seek? That remains the question. In Lewinale Havette's Quiet Love we see a sensual rendering of a woman's body. She is almost at play if she weren't at peace in her pose. This Liberian artist shows incredible talent and her use of colour in the painting is just one example. We are drawn to the colour blue and the yellow juxtaposition. It is a quiet painting the demands reflection and Ms. Havette is astute enough to give us just right amount. Please enjoy these and other works.
