Eastern European Art from the Vienna Contemporary Art Fair

The Vienna Contemporary Art Fair aims to highlight the best in Central and Eastern European art. The invite-only affair showcased close to 70 galleries and almost 700 works of art. Polish and Slovenian art dominated my pics but other Eastern European countries are on display as well. From the poetic work of Barbara Kapusta to the swimming glory of Yevgeny Petrov's art the show exhibited a Eastern European flair. I particularly liked Agnieszka Polska's shattered city, whose reflection of a skyline seemingly in water with colourful thunder made me nostalgic for my homeland. Equally intriguing is Monika Plentauskaite's 5 am, doll-like rendering. The face carefully covered by the girls hair, she sits on a chair waiting for the creature below her. There is a mystery to the work that I find answers everything that I find interesting about Eastern European art. That is, that the works hide and seek at the same time and are just waiting to be discovered.
